Mainframe IT Operator - 3585

Metro Systems is seeking a Mainframe IT Operator (Night Shift) for our client in Mclean, VA. 


Overview: Coordinates, monitors, administers, and services technical environments. Completes implementations, carries out integration activities, and provides operational support for technical environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Document problems and resolutions in organized technical detail including problem, cause, and solution - Basic/Routine
  • Execute service requests from service catalog - Minor impact
  • Operate and maintain high speed online printers for large scale computer operations - Moderate scope
  • Perform test, configuration, environment and preventive maintenance activities - Basic
  • Research new technologies within existing infrastructure to optimize operational processes - Minor impact
  • Establish and test business recovery procedures, standards and policies - Minor impact
  • Identify, create, update and adhere to applicable standards and procedures - Participates in
  • Identify, diagnose, troubleshoot, escalate and/or resolve technical problems - Moderate scope
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and analyze systems/applications - Minor impact
  • Present clear, organized and concise information to all audiences through a variety of media to enable effective business decisions - Basic/Routine
  • Serve on teams and task groups for projects/initiatives within the business unit &/or across the organization - Participates in
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications – All required unless otherwise noted:

  • Ability to document and apply policies, standards and procedures
  • Experience in problem resolution including determining root cause, scope and scale of issues
  • Exposure to validating system availability and performance
  • Working knowledge of MVS and JES2 commands
  • Working knowledge of enterprise systems, terminal knowledge and IT terminology
  • Working knowledge of technical inter-relationships between software/hardware and desktop/LAN/Host systems
  • Basic research, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Effective skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
  • Effective skill in producing desired results and achieving goals and objectives
  • Effective skill supporting a global 24/7, member/customer focused services operation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Desired - Associate's Degree in Information Technology or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience

Night Shift Hours: Sunday-Sunday rotation, 6:00PM-6:00AM
