Virtualization Engineer (OVM) - 3566


The Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, migrating and tuning Linux/ Unix systems (Solaris, RHEL, AIX) with a heavy emphasis on managing OVM (Oracle Virtualization Manager).

  • 3+ years of experience administrating and engineering virtualized infrastructures using Oracle VM (OVM), LDOMs, PowerVC and/or VMWare.
  • Career progressing experience as a Systems Administrator working with a variety of Linux/Unix architectures to include Solaris, RHEL, and/or AIX
  • Proficient scripting skills in Python, Bash, Powershell, Korn, or others.

Responsibilities Most have:

  • Responsible for maintaining current virtualization services, primarily OVM.
  • Collaborate as a value adding member of a team responsible for leading and implementing server, application, and database virtualization solutions based on all virtualization platforms. Will work on a wide variety of virtualization activities; capacity and utilization reporting, server provisioning, server/storage updates.
  • Maintains a high level of service in the current virtual environments by providing technical support.
  • Will work across many departments and teams in support of delivering services by breaking down any barriers to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develops technical plans, conducts technical reviews, and executes upon plans in support of incident, change, and problem management efforts.
  • This role will be called upon as a subject matter expert for OVM across many departments and teams.
  • Serve as an escalation point for issues and requests that cannot be serviced by other groups.
  • Conduct technical peer reviews of change plans and activities; providing recommendations, guidance, and authorization as appropriate.
  • Continuously identify and own problems and/or opportunities for improvement; working toward developing and deploying temporary and permanent fixes.
  • Periodically construct and facilitate training with other groups in support of increasing capabilities, efficiencies, and effectiveness.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of server administration experience for Solaris and Linux operating systems
  • Proven experience with virtualization using Oracle VM (OVM), LDOMs, PowerVC and/or VMWare.
  • Proficient scripting skills in Python, Bash, Powershell, Korn, or others.
  • Ability to install, upgrade and refresh virtual and standalone servers
