Sr. Java Developer (Break/Fix) - 3510

Metro Systems is seeking a Sr. Java Developer for our client in the Reston, VA area. 


  • Extensive experience supporting distributed systems and web-based platforms with a focus on troubleshooting and production support activities.
  • Monitor the development and modification of software.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, customization and upgrades.
  • Review, evaluate and develop recommendations for enhancements and support of applications as required.
  • Experienced with system and product performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Must possess excellent diagnostic, problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Responsible for solving highly technical and complex problems on multiple projects, and providing consultative support to internal staff – On-call support, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company’s standards and best practices.
  • Interact with project managers, business analysts and other internal and external resources as appropriate to ensure accurate and comprehensive understanding of software related issues and requirements.
  • Separates and combines tasks into efficient workflow to improve operations and overall performance of supported processes.
  • Assist with evaluating and recommending changes to standard templates and methodologies.
  • Create and maintain systems’ support documentation as required.
  • Knowledge pertaining to servers, middleware, networks and databases.
  • Ability to develop a technical strategy to resolve issues, and to creatively work through more advanced issues with ‘outside the box’ thinking.
  • General Environment: Linux, OS, JBOSS, SQL, Java, .Net, MS Server Administration, Windows, Apache, Tomcat.


  • Experience with Java/J2EE/RAD development
  • WebSphere, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS development
  • HTML, JavaScript, SQL, JSP, XML
  • Struts, Spring, Hibernate/JPA
  • Java, Java Frameworks, Object-Oriented Design and development principles, and Java Application Servers such as WebSphere, and relational databases such as Oracle or DB2
  • Relational/Object Oriented Modeling/defining API’s
  • Unix OS/Unix Shell Scripting
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) general understanding 
  • Web Services:  REST and SOAP
  • Windows Server Administration and Software Integration


  • General understanding of mainframe systems (COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL)
  • Knowledge of FIS Core Banking Systems a plus (RM, GN, IM, AM, SC)
