Sr. Active Directory Engineer - 3502

Metro Systems, Inc. is looking for a Sr. Active Directory Engineer who will be responsible for managing a large (60k+ user) and highly distributed (5+ sites) Active Directory environment. Most domain controllers run on VMware vSphere virtualized Windows 2008 servers with SAN attached stora

Responsibilities include:

  • Responding to trouble tickets that are beyond the Helpdesk and Desktop support teams abilities to resolve
  • Participate in planning enhancements, conference calls, and upgrades to the Active Directory environment
  • Update documentation, write new procedures, and train help desk personnel one-on-one or in small groups about Active Directory techniques and concepts
  • Interface on technical issues and matters concerning Active Directory with application teams and management
  • Restore AD data using Quest Recovery Manager for Active Directory 
  • Patch domain controllers on a schedule outside of core business hours

Required Skills:

  • Ability to monitor, test and analyze system activities to ensure maximum performance, efficiency, and availability 
  • Ability to analyze system for system usage and plan for growth or increases in system capacity 
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems affecting systems performance, efficiency, and availability in a timely manner 
  • Ability to assess the need for any system reconfigurations (minor or significant) 
  • Ability to maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for Active Directory administration and appropriate use 
  • Knowledge of multi-site geographically dispersed fault tolerant AD 2008 R2 environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory 2008 R2
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, DNS, DHCP, DFS, DFS-R, and Windows File and Print Services
  • Experience with GPO validation, management, and implementation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell commands needed to manage Active Directory
  • Experience implementing and administering PKI/CAC-based Active Directory environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Comfortable with MS Office applications including MS Project and Visio 
  • Knowledge of Office Outlook 2010 features, configuration and troubleshooting

Desired Skills:

  • Security+ or CISSP certified
  • Experience and understanding of IEC production environment with respect to baseline dependencies on these activities
  • Knowledge of SCCM or other enterprise management tools
  • Strong troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of proper IT security procedures, positive customer interface skills; strong troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to conduct research into server issues and products as required
  • Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment

Years of Experience Required: 10+ years

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
