VSCS Test Engineer - 3498

MSI is seeking a Telecomm Systems (VSCS (Voice Switching and Control Systems)) Test Engineer to support the FAA in New Jersey.


Overview

The FAA’s Communications, Flight Service and Weather Engineering Group, located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, provides Second-Level Engineering Support for the safe and efficient operation of our National Airspace System (NAS). In support of that group and its mission, we have an immediate need for a telecommunications professional that has a strong background in System, Development, and Operational Testing, including Plans and Procedures, on the Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Essential functions include overall maintenance of the VSCS, VSCS Training and Backup Switch (VTABS), and other sub systems; troubleshooting equipment and finding solutions; conducting and evaluating engineering studies; and actively participating in technical interchange meetings. The successful candidate is a good communicator, multi-tasker, motivated self-starter, team player, and must be willing to travel.


Education: 

B.S. in Computer Science, Math, or another technical field with 30 or more semester hours of math, statistics, and computer science.   A comparable Master’s degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience.

Experience: 

7 years of related work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years of related work experience with a Master’s Degree.

Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of voice switch system test tools, e.g., spectrum analyzers.
  • General knowledge of telecommunications systems including air-to-ground voice, ground-to-ground voice, PABX, VoIP, and voice recording.
  • Knowledge of legacy and emerging telecommunications technologies.
  • Experience with testing to include plans, reports, and discrepancy procedures.
  • Knowledge of the NAS and NAS support systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of analog and VoIP systems, voice recording, LAN performance, throughput timing measurements, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Packet analysis, Routers, Cisco switches, Wireshark, Linux, Access switches, aggregate switches, data, radio, fiber optics and waves (SF VOX, E&M, RCE), T1, T2, PABX, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), circuit cards, cabling, and voice trunks.
