NVS Test Engineer - 3497

MSI is seeking a Telecomm System (NVS (National Air Space Voice System)) Test Engineer to support the FAA in New Jersey.


Overview

The FAA’s Communications, Flight Service and Weather Engineering Group, located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, provides Second-Level Engineering Support for the safe and efficient operation of our National Airspace System (NAS). In support of that group and its mission, we have an immediate need for a telecommunications professional that has a strong background in System, Development, and Operational Testing, including Plans and Procedures, on the NAS Voice System (NVS) Program.

Essential Functions:

Essential functions include troubleshooting voice switch equipment and finding solutions, developing test procedures and plans, conducting and evaluating engineering studies, writing white papers, and actively participating in technical interchange meetings. The successful candidate is a good communicator, multi-tasker, motivated self-starter, team player, and must be willing to travel.


Education: 

B.S. in Computer Science, Math, or another technical field with 30 or more semester hours of math, statistics, and computer science.  A comparable Master’s degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience.

Experience: 

7 years of related work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree; 5 years of related work experience with Master’s Degree

Skills: 

  • 3-7 years of experience in telecommunications.
  • Working knowledge of voice switch system test tools, e.g., spectrum analyzers.
  • General knowledge of analog and VoIP communication, network performance analysis, TCPIP voice, data, radio, fiber optics and waves.
  • Understanding of software engineering project lifecycle processes.
  • Familiarity with NAS systems and programming languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of analog and VoIP systems, voice recording, LAN performance, throughput timing measurements, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Packet analysis, Routers, Cisco switches, Wireshark, Linux, Access switches, aggregate switches, data, radio, fiber optics and waves (SF VOX, E&M, RCE), T1, T2, PABX, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), circuit cards, cabling, and voice trunks.
