Sr. Network Engineer - 3478

MSI is seeking an Sr. Network Engineer to support a Top Government Integrator in Germantown, MD. 


  • Provides expert level analysis of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices. 
  • Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.
  • Manage and maintain the configuration, availability and system lifecycle of network connectivity devices in a geographically diverse topology serving a federal customer.
  • Familiarity with layer 2 switching; network access control (NAC); common LAN protocols including IPv4 and IPv6; VRF routing, BGP, EIGRP; port channels and virtual port channels; wireless deployments in security constrained environments; site-to-site and customer SSL VPNs; RADIUS, NAC, and basic SQL.
  • Attention to detail. Respect for rules and standards. Ability to communicate across teams as needed, to support VIP customers with highly visible WebEx events, and to write clearly and accurately. Willingness to participate in open inter-team communication. Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing systems.
  • Availability for after-hours and weekend work as defined in customer rules of engagement for maintenance windows.
  • Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements.
  • Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
  • May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users, strong troubleshooting and analytic skills. Facility with Wireshark and other packet analysis tools; May perform network administration duties.
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel and may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Serves as technical team or task leader as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.

Required Skills:

  • 8 -15 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design
  • Familiarity with Linux with the ability to write shell scripts to query and make updates to CallManager, Infoblox, Prime Infrastructure; check rancid configuration files for configuration consistency and adherence to STIG standards; make automated changes to network devices; create tools as needed; monitor and correct inventory records; answer data calls.
  •  Ability to document shell scripts thoroughly, make scripts robust for long term use and available to others for use, and teach others who want to learn how to script. Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco 3560, 3750, 3850, 6500 switches; ASR, ISR, 891, 3845, 3945 routers; Nexus 3K, 5K, 9K; voice gateways; VOIP phones; 5508 controllers; and wireless access points. Able to deploy and maintain Cisco ASA and Cisco AnyConnect.
