Network Engineer - 3470

Metro Systems Inc. is looking for a Tier-3 Network Engineer to support a top government integrator in Alexandria, Virginia.


Description:

  • Candidate will serve as a tier-3 network engineer responsible for configuring network routers/switches/firewalls, troubleshooting network outages, and developing network solutions that range from simple to complex.
  •  Implement networking protocols such as VLANs, VRRP, STP, OSPF, BGP, IPSec and MPLS. 
  • Create and maintain network diagrams and drawings. 
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in the areas of design, installation, maintenance, and support of network infrastructure following established methodologies and processes. 
  • Perform extensive analysis, problem determination, and support of technical issues related to MPLS, IPSec, network device configurations, and diverse routing protocols. 
  • Candidate to obtain Security+ (or IAT equivalent) certification per DOD 8570 policy compliance within 90 days after employment. 
  • Perform occasional after hours and weekend work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Clearance: This position requires the candidate to already possess an active Secret clearance and to maintain the clearance. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field and 10+ years of related network engineering experience; without a degree, 18+ years of experience is required.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with Juniper and Cisco network equipment
  • 8+ years working knowledge of Layer-3, VPNs, BGP, OSPF, firewall policy, and VLAN management
  • 8+ years of knowledge and experience with the following: Ethernet, Ethernet Switching, IP, IP assignment, and IP routing
  • CCNA certification or networking certification required. 

Desired Skills:

  • Reliable self-starter with the ability to follow instructions when needed and complete tasks in a timely fashion
  • Proficiency in network design
  • Good analytical skills and experience with forward/reverse chaining troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience with cable plant management for data and service provider connectivity
