Technical Writer - 3016

Metro Systems is seeking a Technical Writer for our client in the Mclean, VA area. 

To produce technical documentation for Technical program, supporting projects relevant to configuration management, building out technical environments such as integration and production environments.  

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on programs and applications through observation, research and discussions with technical specialists.
  • Organize and write supporting project documents for programs and applications directly or indirectly impacted by project implementation.
  • Develops and maintains documentation describing program development, logic, coding, testing, changes and corrections.
  • Enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and document other internal processes/technical procedures.
  • Product technical documentation including system and swim lane diagrams, support and troubleshooting procedures as well as disaster recovery instructions and other relevant documents.
  • Revise documents as new issues arise.
  • Submit copies to project technical lead for feedback.
  • Deliver high quality documentation in short timeframes.
  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the project, documentation requirements, systems and applications. 
  • Assist in development of training materials for target user groups.



  • Must have strong technical writing and editing skills to create precise and detailed documents which explain technical information clearly.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and ability to adapt to changing requirements and evolving needs.
  • Excel at working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to analyze a problem or process and suggest improvements.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems analysis & design, workflow or procedural analysis.
  • Software expertise with MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Office, PowerPoint, Visio Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint.
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development; computer operations; and project management.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Bonus: Experience supporting mainframe systems and technologies (Legacy, Cobol, Assembly/Assembler, JCL, CICS, Commend Level, DB2)
