Cable Plant Technician - 2698

Metro Systems is seeking a Cable Plant Lead/Supervisor for our client in the Mclean, VA area.



Responsible for supporting the overall designing, installing, maintaining, and repair to various components of the enterprise building cabling plans. Environment includes following:

  • Customer Service Focus
  • Low voltage cabling
  • Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A cable plants
  • Multi pair riser and tie cabling
  • Fiber cable plants
  • Singlemode and Multimode installation and termination to include proper connector fitment.
  • Fluke test equipment and OTDR Testing


  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedure
  • Ability to read and update drawing documents to include project specifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety protocols and procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance
  • Effective performance management skills
  • Ability to instill this same thought process and philosophy in the personnel under your direction.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both upper management and staff alike, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to research and obtain quotes from vendors for needed cabling services.
  • Communicate with management and team members to provide updates on key issues.
  • Solid background of hands-on experience and understanding working with structured cable plant, installing and testing twisted pair and fiber optic cabling.
  • Solid familiarity with cable installation practices to include conduit installation, design drawing interpretation and annotation, universal wiring plans and record keeping.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
  • BICSI RCDD, preference to have BICSI level and manufacturer certifications


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the low voltage cabling industry in a Project Management role
  • Manufacturers certification a plus
  • Unusual Working Conditions: The work is physical and requires a certain degree of agility to bend, reach, stoop, climb and work in uncomfortable positions to include climbing via the use of 8 to 10 foot ladders. Work requires lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials and equipment.
