Linux Administrator/Engineer/Sr. Engineer - 2166

Metro Systems is actively seeking a Linux Administrator, Linux Engineer, and Sr. Linux Engineer to support our client in Arlington, Va. This position does require a Top Secret Clearance.


  • In-depth knowledge of and a minimum of 4 years hands-on Red Hat Linux experience.
  • Linux experience & Python scripting
  • Installs, investigates and resolves routine and complex matters of significance with computer software and hardware equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of and a minimum of 4 years hands-on Red Hat Linux experience.
  •  Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness.  Oversees and implements system upgrade strategies.
  •  Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex solutions.  Coordinates activities with other technical personnel as appropriate.
  •  Develops and analyzes highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance.
  •  Experience with PKI Infrastructures, server certificates, Certificate Authority, Secure DNS (DNS SEC).
  •  Develops strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application.  Monitors system maintenance and provides appropriate recommendations, when required.
  • Thorough understanding and workings of Server protocols including, NTP, SMTP, SFTP, and email routing.
  •  Researches current systems technology and serves as subject matter expert on complex systems processes and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding and workings of incident handling protocols, PII, Server network procedures, and classified information handling.
  •  Able to install and maintain the Red Hat Linux Server operating system and various Linux applications and services such as Apache, TomCat, Kerberos, LDAP, Puppet, Satellite Server, Bind, and Postfix, Bash, Python, and Perl scripting.     Essential Job Functions:
  • Assists in the design of, and develops integrated solutions in accordance with, corporate standards and products.
  • Provides basic technical support to customers by handling systems-related issues; may provide on-call technical support telephonically and/or electronically.
  • Assists in the analysis and resolves basic program support deficiencies and conducts testing to enhance performance.
  • Works on projects as assigned; assists in supporting the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Implements and documents processes and procedures to ensure compliance with standard business practices. Assists in the implementation of training tools and documentation.
  • Provides basic technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other organizations and clients.
  • Performs routine repairs, maintenance and upgrades of existing systems using solutions in accordance with standard operating procedures. Investigates and resolves matters of significance.
